Yonkers Police Capt. Patrick McCormack warned that it is illegal to park in crosswalks - even if crosswalk lines are not painted on the street - after the Yonkers Fire Department advised that their vehicles are being prevented from turning on to some streets due to vehicles parked too closely to the corner.

Some of the main areas causing trouble for first responders are Ludlow Street, Morris Street, Post Street and Elliot Avenue in Yonkers.

McCormack noted that officers on patrol in the Third Precinct and members of the Parking Violations Bureau will be paying extra close attention to the Third Precinct and ticketing violators.

“Please remember to keep our intersections clear so that emergency vehicles can respond to calls in a timely manner,” he said. “Help us keep you safe in the event of an emergency and remember to park clear of any intersection.
