Spano issued the following statement about the appointment:
"I welcome the Board of Education Trustees’ selection of Dr. Michael Yazurlo as Yonkers’ interim Superintendent of Yonkers Public Schools. Dr. Yazurlo joins the District with over 40 years of experience as an educator and administrator, including his time as a principal in Yonkers Public Schools. While we still are dealing with the aftermath of the District’s $55 million overstatement, I look forward to Dr. Yazulo working with our Trustees in moving Yonkers Schools forward and focusing our attention on providing the best education to Yonkers students."
