Westchester HS Principal Attempts To Rescind Resignation

New Rochelle High School Principal Reggie Richardson is attempting to rescind his resignation after he saw his New York City Department of Education job taken away last week. He sent just a one-sentence letter to Superintendent Brian Osborne.

The letter simply stated, “Dear Dr. Osborne, I hereby rescind my letter of resignation dated July 19th 2018.”

Richardson announced his resignation earlier this month, which was to take place effective Aug. 20, stating his intentions to join the DOE. That position was taken from him following a New York Post report questioning his new position and several incidents in recent months involving students.

The New Rochelle Board of Education is expected to visit the issue at their Aug. 7 meeting.

The rescinded offer from the DOE came following a rough academic year in New Rochelle, which saw several stabbing incidents at the high school, including the fatal incident involving 16-year-old Valaree Schwab. He also reportedly has come under fire for slashing suspensions and suspicious “perfect scores” for students taking online classes whose work was incomplete.

An immediate search was started for Richardson’s replacement. It is not clear if he will be welcomed back to his position. School officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
