EcoPark is part of the horticulture special education program at Lincoln High that began four years ago, when the school’s courtyard was transformed into a large garden.

As an ongoing hands-on learning center, EcoPark is maintained daily by more than a dozen special education students.

Spano also recognized several of the school’s recent achievements, including:

• Scientific Research Academy students participated in the Young Science Achievers Program and Symposium, which awarded grants to 20 Lincoln students to fund their research projects

• Academy of Finance Students Fatlinda Krasniqi and Naryis Ramirez will head to Silicon Valley in October after placing first at the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship Regional Business Plan Competition; student Shimona Morgan placed second at the regional competition

• Arts Industry Academy Honors Choir and Male Ensemble, under the direction of teacher Cecilia Myers, recently returned from the WorldStrides Heritage Performance Programs national music competition in Nashville, Tenn., where the group won the gold medal.
