YONKERS, N.Y. - Detectives with the Yonkers Police Department are searching for a suspect that allegedly fired a gun at a female relative following a domestic dispute.
At approximately 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, officers were dispatched to a Hamilton Avenue apartment complex where there was a reported fight, with a single gunshot being fired, Police Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said on Friday afternoon.
Politopoulos said that the preliminary investigation has determined that the suspect and his 26-year-old female victim - who was known to the man - got into a fight that ended when he took out a gun and fired a shot in the victim’s direction. The suspect then fled the scene before police arrived at the scene.
The woman was not struck by the bullet, but she suffered minor abrasions to her lower legs when she fell running away from the suspect. She was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital for additional treatment. No other injuries were reported.
Detectives from the Major Case and Crime Scene Unit are currently working the case, interviewing witnesses, canvassing for surveillance video and processing forensic and ballistic evidence, Politopoulos said. The victim is cooperating and criminal charges are expected to be filed. The investigation is ongoing.
