NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – A Yonkers man allegedly intentionally set fire to his car in North Salem to collect insurance money and now faces criminal charges as a result, according to state police.
New York State Police arrested Raymond Sosa, 28, on Monday, Dec. 8, in connection with the Oct. 26 car fire.
Following a lengthy investigation, it was discovered that Sosa intentionally set his 2008 Toyota Camry on fire by pouring gasoline in the interior of the vehicle and ignited it, state police said.
The vehicle was completely destroyed in the fire, and shortly after, Sosa reported the vehicle stolen, filing a report with his insurance company and attempting to collect funds, police said.
Sosa is charged with third-degree arson and third-degree insurance fraud.
Sosa was arraigned before the Town of North Salem Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to reappear before North Salem Court on Dec. 22.
