WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Westchester man has been extradited from Scotland and returned to Westchester County, where he will face murder charges after fleeing the country last year following a fatal shooting.

On Thursday, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino announced that 31-year-old Sheppard Adeghe of Yonkers has been extradited and will face life in prison for his role in the shooting death of his victim last summer.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Aug. 10 last year, a car drove into the emergency room area at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers, where a man was dropped off, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Within an hour of being dropped off, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to an autopsy performed by the medical examiner, the cause of death was a single gunshot wound that passed through the victim’s arm, entering his chest. Detectives launched an investigation and tracked down the car that transported the victim, which had blood stains in the back seat.

Two days after the shooting, Scarpino said that Adeghe applied for and was issued an emergency United States passport. Later that day, he boarded an international flight to Amsterdam, then the Netherlands, before finally landing in Edinburgh, Scotland.

During the investigation, police said that they obtained information leading to the identification of Adeghe, which placed him on Poplar Street at the same time the victim was shot and just before he arrived at the hospital. On Aug. 26 last year, police received a tip that Adeghe was in Scotland, and days later police executed a federal warrant and detained him.

Extradition proceedings were then commenced, resulting in Adeghe’s return to the United States, with an assist from the FBI. Adeghe has been charged with felony counts of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Adeghe has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He remains remanded to Westchester County Jail. He is due back in court on Tuesday, March 14, where he will face between 25 years to life in state prison.
