Attendees received a surprise on Tuesday afternoon when they went to fetch a sausage outside the New Rochelle Police Department, as the Yankee legend was behind the grill. Rivera was sporting a t-shirt representing his wife’s church, Refugio de Esperanza, which is located next door to the station.

Scarpino attended several events throughout the county - though none were as star-studded - until rain and thunderstorms ultimately washed out several planned events at area police departments.

Each year, thousands of communities throughout the country celebrate National Night Out, which is designed to “strengthen police-community partnerships and generating further awareness about the safety in our communities.

During the National Night Out events, there were “feature family-friendly activities, entertainment, demonstrations and presentations designed to connect with and inform the community about crime prevention and safety. National Night Out also provided opportunities for all community members to get to know their law enforcement officers.”
