YONKERS, N.Y. -- A Yonkers man shot into a group of people on Sunday, hitting one woman in the leg, according to the Yonkers Police Department.
The incident occurred around 9:48 p.m. in the area of 149 North Broadway during a dispute between a group of people, said Officer Dean Politopoulos.
The victim, a 26-year-old woman, who was shot in the lower leg, was treated at the scene and then taken to a local hospital for treatment, he added.
Officers cordoned off the area and initiated a criminal investigation. No other persons reported any injuries, said DPolitopoulos
Detectives from the Major Case Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene, and interviewed witnesses and reviewed video surveillance subjects. Detectives said the shooting was an escalation of an earlier dispute and not a random event.
Politopoulos said the incident is under investigation and no other information will be released at this time.
