Shawn Wallace, 30, of Ely Avenue was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, which are misdemeanors.

The incident began about 2:30 a.m. when Westchester County Police officer Michael McAllister attempted to stop a 2011 BMW after observing a traffic violation on the eastbound Cross County Parkway at Central Park Avenue in Yonkers, police said.

When the officer activated his lights and sirens, the vehicle initially slowed and appeared to be coming to a stop near Kimball Avenue. The driven then accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed, reaching speeds up to 90 miles per hour, according t police.

The driver exited at Broad Street in Mount Vernon, running a red light and proceeding on to Fleetwood Avenue.

The BMW clipped another car as it drove past it, damaging that vehicle’s passenger-side mirror and rear bumper, police said.

Wallace then lost control at Fleetwood and Gramatan Avenues and struck a tree, said police. Wallace was taken into custody at the scene.

A computer check revealed his license was suspended.

Three small bags of marijuana were found in his possession. Wallace and a passenger who was in his vehicle were not injured in the crash. The passenger was not charged.

Wallace also was issued multiple summonses for vehicle and traffic law violations and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Wallace was booked at county police headquarters in Hawthorne and released on $1,000 bail. He is due in Mount Vernon City Court on May 12.
