Crews Battle Four-Alarm Fire In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Firefighters are battling a four-alarm blaze at a structure surrounded by multi-family homes on Herriot Street in Yonkers on Sunday afternoon.

The fire broke out at 53 Herriot St. shortly after 2 p.m. with first due companies on the scene encountering heavy fire that spread to 55 Herriot on the left and 51 Herriot on the right, the Yonkers Fire Department said.

A quick search for victims was done. None were found, the Yonkers FD reported.

After an hour, 53 Herriot sustained a partial collapse, the Yonkers FD said. Companies were able to save 51 Herriot, which is separated from 53 Herriot only by a four-foot alley. Heavy damaged was also sustained at 55 Herriot, Yonkers FD reported.

A few injuries to firefighters that are believed to be minor have been reported.

The Office of Emergency Management and and the Red Cross are on the scene for relocations.

New Rochelle Rochelle firefighters are assisting the Yonkers Fire Department.
