According to officials, police responded to the scene at River's Edge Restaurant and Bar, located at 1064 McLean Avenue, around 3:02 a.m.

When they arrived, they found whomever had struck the building had fled the scene.

The crash disturbed a gas line and may have compromised the overall structure of the building, which prompted Yonkers OEM to assist the Red Cross in evacuating the four apartments above the restaurant. Con Edison responded to the gas line.

Yonkers police later located a gray sedan with substantial damage, which they impounded as evidence. No driver is in custody at this time, according to officials.

Yonkers Police spokesman Lt. Patrick McCormack said, "We're following up on some good leads about the driver, but it's still an open investigation."

According to Red Cross spokeswoman Carolyn Sherwin, 14 were displaced, along with two dogs and a cat.

Sherwin said Yonkers OEM and the Red Cross were able to open a reception center at catering hall next door, where they helped residents find temporary housing.

Sherwin said it is unclear when the residents will be able to return to their apartments, as the building department deemed the structure uninhabitable until repairs are made.
