Edith Mary Coughlin, 74, Yonkers Resident

YONKERS, N.Y. – Edith Mary Coughlin (Tyrrell) a lifelong Yonkers resident, died Saturday, Jan.16, of cancer. She was 74.

She was born Jan. 11, 1942, to John and Edith (Smith) Tyrrell in Yonkers, where she attended St. Joseph Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School. 

She worked as the medical records coder-coordinator at St. John's Hospital for over 20 years, and retired in 2005. 

On March 14, 1964, she married Brian Coughlin of Yonkers at Monastery Church of the Sacred Heart. She was a parishioner of Christ the King Church.

In addition to her husband, Brian, she is survived by her four children, Edith (James) Castro Blanco, Brian (Lisa) Coughlin, Daniel Coughlin and Matthew (Laura) Coughlin; 11 grandchildren; and her brother John (Jack) Ann Tyrell of Sun City, Ariz.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave., Yonkers. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church. Committal service will take place at Ferncliff Chapel.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
