Carol Martinelli, 89, Of Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. - Carol Martinelli of Yonkers died Wednesday, Nov. 19. She was 89.

Martinelli was born Feb. 8, 1925, to Ricardo and Rose Madatto in Mongrassano, Italy, in the province of Cosenza, region of Calabria. She came to the United States when she was four years old and grew up in Mt. Vernon where she graduated from Our Lady of Victory and A.B. Davis High School. She worked at RKO Proctor's in Mt. Vernon as a cashier.

She volunteered at Mt. Vernon Hospital as a candy striper and organized home cooked meals through St. Eugene's program providing a monthly meal for the the homeless of the Yonkers Sharing Community. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Medical Center Auxiliary and the Ladies Guild of her parish, St. Eugene's. For many years she chaired the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days and she served on the Advisory Board of the Westchester Division of the Committee on Italian Migration. She was a former member of the YWCA Board of Directors.

Martinelli is survived by her husband, Angelo; sons, Michael (Jeanne), Paul (Lori), Robert (Alice), Richard (Beth Ann), Thomas (Kathy), and Ralph; sister, Josephine; brother, Peter; 11 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Calling hours are Friday, Nov. 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at St. Eugene's Church (Tuckahoe Road and Central Ave.). Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Yonkers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Autism Speaks (www.autismspeaks.org) in Martinelli’s memory.
