Carl R. Kwechin, 96, Of Yonkers, WWII Veteran, Auto Mechanic

YONKERS, N.Y. - Carl R. Kwechin, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, died Nov. 29. He was 96.

Kwechin was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Yonkers, son of Anthony and Tekla (Fralkowski) Kwechin. He was a World War II Army veteran serving from 1941 to 46 with the H.A.M. He retired from the phone company where he was an auto mechanic.

Kwechin is survived by his daughters, Nancy Kwechin-Peterson (Richard) and Theresa Kwechin of Manhattan; sons, Carl A. (Kelly), Stephen (Elizabeth), Christopher (DeEtta), Kevin (Elizabeth), Michael and Robert; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen; and sisters, Anna and Blanche Ackerman.

Calling hours are Monday, Dec. 2 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main St., Pawling, with a service at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Yonkers.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kwechin's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project , National Processing Center, PO Box 758541, Topeka, KS 66675-8541.
