YONKERS, N.Y. -- As 2012 draws to a close, The Yonkers Daily Voice is recapping some of the biggest stories of the year. In case you missed them, here is a summary:

Hurricane Sandy swept into Yonkers on Oct. 29, knocking out power to more than 21,000 city residents, bringing down hundreds of trees and flooding several buildings along the waterfront.

In November, the Archdiocese of New York named St. Casimir School as one of its schools that is at risk of closing at the end of the school year.

Former Yonkers City Council member Sandy Annabi and her political mentor, former city Republican party leader Zehy Jereis, were found guilty of conspiracy, bribery and extortion in March for their roles in a corruption scandal.

Hundreds of friends, family and firefighters mourned the passing of Yonkers firefighter Antonio Rodriques, who died in August as a result of injuries sustained during department training.

The city lost one of its most memorable residents in September when Jess Buzzutto , the beloved man known better as the Yonkers' leprechaun, died.

The effects of Hurricane Sandy were felt long after the storm had passed as a gas shortage crippled the city for nearly a week.

Early this year, a mysterious force field blocked keyless car remotes from working and left many drivers on a busy section of Yonkers Avenue stranded and confused.

Yonkers got a taste of Hollywood in September when reality television superstars Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian visited the Cross County Shopping Center.

Nathan's Famour Hot Dog's loyal fans said goodbye to the Central Park Avenue eatery in November after it was announced the iconic restaurant would be shuttered during a downsizing project.
