YONKERS, N.Y. – More than 16,000 residents in Yonkers were left in the dark Monday as Hurricane Sandy’s winds came in.

As of Monday night, an estimated 16,400 out of 75,568 customers in Yonkers were without power, according to Con Edison reports. That number is part of nearly 100,000 residents in Westchester County who lost power, Con Edison says.

"At this point, any outages are going to be storm related," Allan Drury, Con Edison spokesman, told The Daily Voice Monday. "We're seeing outages being reported throughout New York City and throughout Westchester."

The estimated time of repair is still pending for a majority of the homes throughout Westchester County, according to Con Edison reports.

"We're restoring people now and we'll continue to do so as long as conditions are safe for us to be out there," Drury said. "With all of the outages, we will do our best to work as quickly as possible to restore power as long as those repairs can be made safely."
