WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The 18-year-old motorist who was killed in an overnight crash involving two vehicles on the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway near McLean Avenue in Yonkers has been identified.

The crash occurred around 2:50 a.m. Monday when a vehicle that had broken down and was stopped in the roadway was rear-ended by an Acura TSX, said Kieran O'Leary, public information officer for Westchester County Police.

The occupants of the Acura got into a third vehicle, abandoning the Acura and fleeing the scene, O'Leary said.

Zachary Dunn of Yonkers, the driver of the stopped vehicle, was taken by ambulance to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, where he was later pronounced dead. A passenger in his vehicle was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers with non-life-threatening injuries, O'Leary said.

Dunn was scheduled to start classes at Westchester Community College on Tuesday.

The circumstances of the crash and the identities of those involved in leaving the scene are under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information is asked to call Westchester County Police at 914-864-7701. All calls are confidential.

That stretch of the Saw Mill River Parkway remained closed for hours while the accident was investigated.
