YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers High School graduate Chris Ortega received an Honorable Mention in the 2014 W&M Global Film Festival in January for his short film, "Infinite," which was originally made for a school project.

“Myself and the entire cast are beyond enthralled and honored to hear of such exciting news," Ortega said. "Filmmaking is a huge part of my life and moments like receiving my first award and watching my film succeed all feels really amazing”.

Ortega is a student at Purchase College, SUNY, where his  creative writing class inspired the film, which stars Phil Gigante. The film is based on the novel "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky.

"After receiving a great deal of positive feedback from multiple audiences, Ortega made the decision to push 'Infinite' to various festivals," representatives said.

The W&M Global Film Festival, based in Virginia, recognizes filmmakers and films across the world that inhabit a unique creative vision.

Festival representatives said “our screening committee greatly enjoyed your film and would like to award it an Honorable Mention."

Festival representatives included the film on their website for their online audience to watch.
