A slice of Americana celebrating the lives of more than 50,000 soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam has made its way to Greenburgh.

This week, the American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT)Traveling Vietnam Wall was escorted into Elmsford, down Main Street and North Hillside Avenue before coming to a stop at DeLuca Park, where it will remain open to the public through Sunday afternoon.

The wall is 360 feet long and is an 80 percent replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. It arrived late on Thursday, by way of an escort of more than 100 Vietnam veterans on motorcycles, as well as the Elmsford Police Department and Fire Department. It will be open 24 hours a day until it closes at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Officials said that in the park under the gazebo, there is a name locator station for local residents to look up a friend or family member whose name is on the wall. There is also a name tracer paper and pencil.

According to officials, the AVTT “is a multi-division Nationally recognized Veteran owned and operated small business. We got our start through the improved construction of our 80% Traveling Vietnam Wall, while being a part of more than 300 events across America over the last 8 years.

“AVTT prides itself on the support of our Armed Forces and continues our mission of Honor Respect Remembrance for our fallen and serving men and women in uniform. Additionally, AVTT allows those without the means or ability to travel to our great national memorial sites to pay respect and share in the experience of honoring our heroes.”
