YONKERS, N.Y. - Children and adults alike descended on the Yonkers Brewing Co. Sunday to support the St. Baldrick's Foundation - a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers.
Many got their faces painted, and others enjoyed the beer and food, but the most popular fundraising activity seemed to be getting your head shaved.
"This is a great charity event," said Mike Muller of the Yonkers PBA, which staged the seventh annual event. "All the proceeds from our events go to fighting kids' cancer. It goes to our hearts because we know how it affects families and children. In the last several years we've raised close to $400,000.00"
Muller said the community response has been strong.
"It's amazing," Muller said. "Everyone comes out. ... We have volunteers from all different areas of the city, and actually all over the state. Everyone gets very excited about it. It's a great day."
