The Hutchinson River Parkway drawbridge near the Westchester/Bronx border reopened around 7 p.m. Wednesday after a closure of around three hours led to gridlock and detoured traffic.

Hutch southbound traffic in Westchester was diverted in New Rochelle to the westbound Cross County Parkway. The Cross County Parkway eastbound ramp to the southbound Hutch was also closed.

Earlier report:

Motorists should avoid the Hutchinson River Parkway in southern Westchester and the Bronx Wednesday afternoon into the evening due to a stuck drawbridge.

Westchester County Police said the bridge is stuck in the open position, which is causing significant delays and traffic diversions.

Police closed the Hutch southbound at the Cross County Parkway by diverting all traffic on to the westbound Cross County Parkway.

In addition, the ramp that connects the eastbound Cross County Parkway to the southbound Hutch was also closed.

Motorists are advised to avoid the Hutch for several hours, through the evening commute, and expect significant delays in that area.

NYPD officials said they cannot estimate how long it will take to get the drawbridge closed.

There were stop-and-go delays on northbound I-95 at Playland Parkway (Exit 19) after a crash took out the right lane at 4 p.m.
