Yonkers YMCA Seventh-Grade Boys Capture Tri-County Basketball Title

YONKERS, N.Y. -- The Yonkers YMCA seventh-grade boys basketball team brought home the Tri-County Basketball League's championship trophy Sunday with a 49-46 victory over favored Croton-on-Hudson at the College of New Rochelle.

Yonkers coach Rashad Morris, a former star athlete and now assistant basketball coach at Saunders High School, was thrilled to see his boys give Yonkers the title and complete the season with a record of 16-2

"We had an 11-point lead at halftime an were down by four points at the start of the fourh quarter," Morris said. "We came back to take lead  by two points with 1:10 left on clock. Zeke Blauner hit 4 of 4 free throws, Matthew Mulosmanaj hits 2 of 2 free throws to give us the lead and the game."

Yonkers also avenged an earlier loss to Croton, which was previously undefeated.

The champion Yonkers YMCA players are Zeke Blauner, Lexus Fasce, Matthew Mulosmanaj, Ivan Hernandez, Rich Cruz, Jaden Stevens, Z'Inah Brown, Chris Baez, Jason Garcia, Anthony Jacobs, Jared Williams and Nokia Kennedy.
