The Yonkers resident and avid runner said years ago, she was obsessed with crossing the race off her "bucket list" but continues to return to it year after year because it's "the biggest party in New York and it's an amazing, magical race."

This year for the first time, she is running for the Children of Promise CPNYC, a community based, non-profit organization, in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, which embraces the children of incarcerated parents and empowers them to break the cycle of intergenerational involvement in the criminal justice system.

Rivera-Filippi said she'll be thinking about all of the children she and her team are supporting and that thought will carry her through each mile.

"I'm not trying to beat my times this year," she said. "Instead, my goal is finish strong and to do my best to support an organization I believe in."

And though she's been training for a while -- swimming, biking, cross training -- she said she can't help but be a little nervous.

"Mostly, I"m excited," she said. "It's a day where the City comes together like no other to clap and scream and give their support to strangers. You can definitely feel the love."
