Hogue, a Lincoln High School graduate, has started all 13 games for the Cyclones (11-2), who play No. 15 West Virginia on Saturday in Morgantown. Hogue enters that game averaging 11.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

Hogue had a huge game in a 63-61 win over Oklahoma State on Tuesday. He scored 17 points, including the final seven points of the game. He also had a huge block with less than a second left to help the Cyclones hold off the Cowboys.

Hogue hit a 3-pointer with less than three minutes left to extend Iowa State’s lead to 59-55, and then hit two more baskets in the final two minutes.

Hogue scored all of his points in the second half, making all of his shots from the field after the break. He also grabbed eight boards and tied his career high with three 3-pointers.

Hogue, a 6-6 forward, played and started in 36 games last year for Iowa State. He was named to the NCAA Tournament All-East Region team, and also earned the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week Award. He was also named the Big 12 Player of the Week once last season.

He came to Iowa State as a transfer from Indian Hills Community College in Iowa.

Iowa State is coached by Fred Hoiberg, a former star for the Cyclones who also played in the NBA.

“He’s really cool,” Hogue said in a story on CBS. “I’ve always had a lot of coaches that are loud and might scream at you, but Coach Hoiberg has this calm presence to him that lets us players just be confident on the court and not panic. If you have a coach that’s calm when adversity hits, then the players are going to react the same too.”
