Many sports bars expect an overflow of New York Rangers fans dropping by to watch Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals against the Los Angeles Kings Saturday at 7 p.m. The Belmont goes off at 6:35 p.m. as a primer for the hockey game.
Ray Foster, a horse racing and hockey fan from Tarrytown, said he will watch both events at a friend's home in Greenburgh. The last Triple Crown winner was affirmed in 1978, and the Rangers last won the Stanley Cup in 1994.
"I used to follow racing more, but this is the Triple Crown, and it hasn't happened in nearly 40 years," Foster said. "The Rangers are more exciting, though. Everyone is on that."
A manager at the Sports Page in White Plains said Saturday night crowds are usually good and the back-to-back Belmont and Rangers game should make for a busy night.
Dobbs Ferry's Vinny Vicchio, a part-time bartender at Doubledays in Dobbs Ferry, said he expects to see sports fans watching the race and the game.
"Doubledays doesn't do much (horse racing), but there may be a 10-man pool," Vicchio said.
