A former standout baseball player from Westchester was selected Friday in the Major League Baseball Draft.

Fox Lane High School grad Richard Slenker of Pound Ridge, a third baseman at Yale University, was picked by the Houston Astros in the 28th round, the 841st selection overall.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Slenker, who bats and throws right, was a team captain for Yale this past season, earning second-team All-Ivy. He hit .333 during the Ivy League regular season with 11 RBI, 11 walks, five doubles and a homer.

At Fox Lane, Slenker was a three-year varsity starter, serving as the Foxes’ team captain in his final two seasons, batting .423 as a sophomore, .457 as a junior and .494 as a senior.
