Iona junior Jordan Washington slapped Monmouth's Chris Brady in the face during the incident. Monmouth coach King Rice told reporters after the game that "Brady's nose is pretty messed up right now" and predicted there would be suspensions.
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference said it is reviewing the videotape of the incident and reports from game officials.
There had been some chippy players toward the end of the game after Monmouth pulled away from the Gaels to take a double-figure lead. The teams' coaches -- Rice and Iona's Tim Cluess -- also exchanged words during a MAAC Tournament game last season.
The teams will play again Feb. 19 at Monmouth.
