Biondi's Ron Garcia Is Yonkers Athlete of the Month

YONKERS, N.Y. - Ronald Garcia rallied his Biondi School boys basketball team all the way to the Section 1 Class D basketball finals and has been named the Yonkers Daily Voice Athlete of the Month for February.

Garcia, a junior center, scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Lions into the final with a 52-36 victory over Greenburgh Academy. He scored 11 points and had eight rebounds in a 49-40 loss to Martin Luther King Jr. in the Class D championship game Friday, and was named the the Section 1 Class D All-Tournament team.

"It was a good season and we worked hard to become a good team," Garcia said after the loss. "I wanted to get this championship, but I know we did our best."

The 6-foot-2 inside player missed Biondi's 2012 final-four appearance in the Class D playoffs with an injury.

Biondi's coach, Bob Delle Bovi, said Garcia was the team's strength under the basket.

“We have a very good inside-out game with Ronald strong inside,” Delle Bovi said. “It means a lot to have a player like him. He works very hard."

The Athlete of the Month is chosen by the sports reporters and editors of the Daily Voice.
