Foley starred at Ardsley High School, where she was named the Class B Player of the Year by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
Foley scored 22 points for Ardsley in 61-39 win over Westlake in the Class B semifinals. In the championship game, Foley scored 17 in a 50-48 loss to Irvington.
Foley was one of the best athletes in the area, also competing on the volleyball and softball teams while at Ardsley. Foley led her volleyball squad as an outside hitter to an undefeated 22-0 regular season in 2013 and a spot in the Class B Championship game.
Foley grew up in a basketball family in Ardsley. Her brother Tommy and sister Kristen both played the sport at Ardsley High School. Her aunts also grew up with the love of the game (one played collegiately at Catholic University). And her father, Tom, also was a Division I player at Iona College.
“Sports are big in my family,” Foley said in the story on the Fairfield site. “Basketball was one that I really liked so I just stuck with it.”
Foley said that her father was excited about the chance for her to play at Fairfield.
“He was actually real excited and wanted me to go here,” Foley said. “He was the person pushing me the most. He thinks it’s a great place and is real excited that someone is going here.”
Regarded as one of the area’s top point guards, and an athlete who understands the importance of defense, Foley will fit well into head coach Joe Frager’s system.
“I was taught to always work hard and stay focused,” Foley said. “Never lose your mind in the game.”
Fairfield finished 15-16 last year and 13-7 in the conference. The Stags played their best at the end of the season, winning five of their final seven games before losing to league power Marist in the MAAC semifinals.
Fairfield's returning class is led by Casey Smith of Danbury, a junior who was a third-team All-Conference selection. A transfer from St. Joseph's, she was the conference's Rookie of the Week six times and fell three points shy of tying the school's 20-year-old scoring record for first-year players.
