YONKERS, N.Y. – Yonkers Schools Superintendent Michael Yazurlo is leaving his position due to health reasons, the school district said Friday in a statement.
Yazurlo, 66, will be immediately replaced by Deputy Superintendent Edwin Quezada.
Born in Yonkers, Yazurlo is the former Superintendent of Tuckahoe Union Free School District, where he served for 13 years, and an associate professor of graduate education at The College of Saint Rose and State University of New York at Stony Brook, according to Yonkers Public Schools.
"Dr. Yazurlo brought a steady hand and vision to the District when he came out of retirement to take the helm," Sayegh said in a statement. "His advocacy and leadership as a teacher, as principal of Roosevelt High School and as Superintendent of Schools made a difference in the lives of the students we serve. The Trustees and I wish him well in his future endeavors."
