YONKERS, N.Y. – Five Westchester County parochial schools learn their fate Tuesday.

The Archdiocese of New York will announce Tuesday afternoon which “at-risk” elementary/middle schools will be shuttered and which, if any, have staved off closure.

The schools – St. Casimir in Yonkers, Holy Name of Jesus in Valhalla, Our Lady of Fatima in Scarsdale, St. Theresa in Briarcliff Manor and Our Lady of the Assumption in Peekskill – were among 26 in the area targeted in November as part of a consolidation effort.

At the time, the archdiocese said the decisions were made after a local board and reconfiguration committee analyzed schools on their sustainability by factoring in tuition and enrollment as well as academic and local demographics.

For the past two months, each school has been working to come up a long-term financial plan to convince the archdiocese it should remain open.
