Superintendent of Schools Bernard Pierorazio announced Friday that the Board of Education has reached agreements on Annual Professional Performance Review plans with both the Yonkers Federation of Teachers and the Yonkers Council of Administrators.

The Yonkers City School District stood to lose $16.7 million in state aid and grants if it didn't submit a review plan by the state-mandated deadline of Jan. 17. The district already lost a $1.2 million grant that would have benefited 14 priority schools by not submitting the review by the state Education Department's requested deadline of Dec. 1.

“It has been an intense process, but we were determined to meet the State’s January 17 deadline for APPR to ensure the District would not forfeit nearly $17 million in funding,” said Pierorazio in a statement. “The agreements keep the District’s instructional programs in place and our employees’ jobs safe for the remainder of the school year.”

The Board of Education has also agreed on language for the teachers union contract, covering 2011-2012 through 2013-2014.

“Contract resolution provides stability during tenuous economic times and allows us to concentrate energy on our primary objective: providing the best possible education to our students,” school board President Paresh Patel said in a statement.

The Board of Education is scheduled to meet with the administrators union and the Civil Service Employees Association next week to finalize employee contracts.
