YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers Public School administrators and staff will host the Districtwide School Choice Fair to inform parents about the 39 Yonkers Public Schools and Central Office Departments from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Saunders Trades and Technical High School, 183 Palmer Road, Yonkers.
This session will provide parents with information that will assist them in making a choice during the School Choice Process for September 2015, which takes place from Feb. 7-21.
The School Choice Fair is an opportunity to meet administrators and staff from all of the district's schools, as well as representatives from transportation, special education and pupil support, English for speakers of other languages and transitional bilingual education, elementary and secondary education. The Council of PTSAs also will be available to assist parents.
Throughout December and January, every school will host open houses during the day to give parents an opportunity to experience the schools first hand and meet students, teachers and administrators.
Open house schedules were mailed to families who already have registered new for September 2015 and to families of students in transition grades –sixth-graders at PreK-6 schools with the exception of Montessori Schools 27 and 31 - those students will be placed at Yonkers Montessori Academy and eighth-graders at PreK–8 with the exception of Palisade Preparatory School and Yonkers Montessori Academy whose students graduate from their schools. The district will continue to use the Online School Choice Application, which must be completed at www.yonkerspublicschools.org bewteenFeb. 7-21. School Choice information will be mailed the week Jan. 20.
New students for September 2015 must register now. To register, parents should call the Information Center at 914-376-8050 to schedule an appointment. Information is available at www.yonkerspublicschools.org.
