YONKERS, N. Y. -- While Yonkers school officials aren't finished with water and fixture testing in all of the district's 39 school buildings, they have started closing down unsafe fixtures and letting the public know results of testing thus far, according to lohud.com.
Letters have gone out to parents in 20 of the 39 schools to either say the water tested at safe levels or unsafe levels were found and fixtures were shut off, reported lohud.com. So far, 36 fixtures were found to be unsafe in 12 of the 20 buildings, and turned off, lohud.com said.
School officials said they will follow the same process when lab work from the remaining buildings is complete, according to lohud.com. In the cases of fixtures that have been shut off, fresh water is available elsewhere in the builidng, lohud.com reports.
