The registry, valued at $20,000, has over 50 “wish list” items, from paper towels to headphones to a state-of-the-art-projector, needed to build the college-going culture at YPIE’s new after school academic support and enrichment center, the YPIE College Zone.

The center will open its doors to Yonkers Public School students in February.

College Zone combines academic support and life-skills coaching with unique “samplings” of creative and innovative fields from professional guests such as computer scientists and slam poets.

“The College Zone needs to create an environment of high expectations for the over 200 students who will be using the space each week," said Sam Wallis, YPIE’s Director of High School Programs.

"We expect a lot from our students, and they should expect a culture at the College Zone that is inviting and supportive. We hand-picked each item to support our vision for the program, and donors can feel as if they are not just writing a check; they are buying something tangible to help in our mission to spark students’ curiosity.”
