Yonkers Middle High School Celebrates Class of 2015

YONKERS, N.Y. — The students of Yonkers Middle High School anxiously awaited this day for a long time, the day that they are called, "The Class of 2015." 

Ayesha Asheyar, Anette Innabi, Kylie Reardon, Jackie DiLillo, Radhamely DeLeon and Matthew Shlewiet. This group will be going to a variety of schools; Middlebury College, Barnard College, Utica College, SUNY Purchase, City College of Harlem, and WCC.

Families and friends came together at the Westchester County Center in White Plains on Wednesday evening to witness the 280 students receive their diplomas. Students proudly wore their school colors of blue and orange shashes around their necks over their blue or white gowns.

Yonkers Middle High School has been ranked No. 18 in the top high schools in New York and No. 121 in the United States by US News and World Report. 

Jocellyn Hernandez's entire family was proud of her. Hernandez who will be attending Berkeley College in the fall said," I am scared but, I am also happy."

Amanda Brown, who will be attending Ithaca College in the fall was also feeling mixed emotions. " This is so surreal. It hasn't quite hit me yet," said Brown. Marceen Lovelace, Brown's mother said," I am extremely emotional. I have two daughters and both went to Yonkers Middle High School, and now my baby graduated."

Lovelace  praised the Yonkers Public Schools. "I believe this is the best education that I could ever given to my children in a public school setting. I am very happy and proud of my daughter," she said.

Liam Pettit, who was the captain of the varsity soccer team was very happy. " I can't wait to start college," said Pettit. Megan DiGeronimo, who was the captain of the cheerleading squad and will be attending Maritime University in the fall, was extremely excited. What will DiGeronimo miss most about high school? "I will miss seeing my friends but, today is the best day of high school," said DiGeronimo.
