Yonkers Class Of 2013: Palisade Prep Valedictorian, Salutatorian

YONKERS, N.Y. – With the school year coming to a close, Yonkers schools are honoring some of the highest achievers in the graduating Class of 2013.

Palisade Preparatory School: Valedictorian

Brian Abel Aguilar is the Valedictorian of Palisade Preparatory School, with a weighted grade point average of 97.8.

Aguilar has taken a total of five Advanced Placement courses and is an Advanced Placement Scholar and Questbridge College Prep Scholar. He is the recipient of the Vassar College Book Award, University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leaders Award, Superintendent’s Honor Society and a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.

He has been a Yonkers Rising Student of the Month and received a Certificate of Recognition in Journalism for the Yonkers Student Grapevine. He also received an award for participation in the 2011 Youth Mentoring Initiative and won fourth place in the Structural Engineering Competition at the Manhattan College Summer Engineering Program.

Throughout his tenure at Palisade Preparatory School, Aguilar made the Principal’s List and High Honor Roll. He held a variety of leadership positions including President of Student Government, Treasurer of the Seniors Activities Committee, Editor-In-Chief of the Yearbook Committee, Treasurer and Founding Member of the Animal Relief Club, and multiple positions within the Journalism Club.

In his free time, Aguilar volunteers at the Yonkers Riverfront Library, Hudson River Museum, Casa de Dios Church and Palisade Preparatory School.

He has been accepted to Manhattan College, the State University of New York at Binghamton, Buffalo, Stony Brook and Albany, and the City University of New York colleges: City College Honors, Hunter, Lehman, Staten Island, Queens, and Brooklyn. He will major in Engineering.

Salutatorian

Sherese Morgan is the Salutatorian of Palisade Preparatory School, with a weighted grade point average of 96.9.

She is a recipient of the All-City Academic Achievement Award, Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, Wellesley College Book Award, and numerous certificates of academic achievement. She has held a variety of leadership positions at Palisade Prep, including President of the Animal Relief Club, High School Vice President of the Palisade Preparatory PTSA, Secretary of the Student Government, Layout Designer of Prep News, and a Reporter/Editor of student content for MSG Varsity.

Morgan has also participated in the Manhattan College Summer Engineering Program and Princeton University Summer Journalism Program. She took part in the EMC 2012 Student Star Program and Adarsh Alphons Project.

She volunteered with the Yonkers Animal Shelter, the Yonkers Riverfront Library, and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Her interests include knitting, guitar, journalism and art.

Morgan has been accepted to Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, University of Rochester, Manhattan College and City University of New York colleges: Queens, Brooklyn, and Baruch. She plans to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and will major in Environmental Engineering.
