Yonkers Class Of 2013: Lincoln High School Valedictorian, Salutatorian

YONKERS, N.Y. – With the school year coming to a close, Yonkers schools are honoring some of the highest achievers in the graduating Class of 2013.

Each day this week, The Yonkers Daily Voice will take a look at the valedictorians and salutatorians of each high school in the Yonkers Public School District.

Lincoln High School: Valedictorian

Natasha Guerrero is the valedictorian of Lincoln High School, with a weighted grade point average of 99.6.

Guerrero has taken a total of nine Advanced Placement courses. She was the 2012 President of the National Honor Society, a member of the Lambda Alpha Beta Gamma National Business Honor Society and placed third in the Young Science Achievers Program at the Liberty Science Center.

Guerrero manages various activities at Lincoln High School including assisting with the Spring Fair and helping to organize the Academy of Finance graduation and reunion, Lincoln’s pep rally, and the monthly bulletin board.

She is also active in the Art Club, Math Club, Science Research Paper, and Relentless Dreamers Top 100 Club. She has worked at the Yonkers Board of Education as an intern and at Albert Einstein Medical School as a student volunteer.  Her hobbies include baking, painting, drawing, writing, and watching movies.

Guerrero has been waitlisted at Brown University, Syracuse University, Pratt Institute, and Northeastern University and has been accepted to Carnegie Mellon University, City College Honors, Hunter College, Lehman College, Drexel University, Fordham University, Iona College, Johnson and Wales University, New York Institute of Technology, New York University, Pace University, Parsons School of Design, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology, St. John’s University and Sienna College. She will major in Architecture.

Salutatorian

Wasif Ali is the salutatorian of Lincoln High School, with a weighted grade point average of 98.3. He has taken four Advanced Placement courses and six Century Honors courses.

Ali is a member of the National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society and Superintendent’s Honor Society and has received the United States Achievement Academy 2010 National Award, Certificate of Merit from Congressman Eliot Engel, and Certificate of Merit from Yonkers City Hall. He was awarded numerous High Honor Roll Awards and remains on the Principal’s List.

Ali is Vice President of the National Honor Society, Treasurer of the National Honor Society, President of the Einstein Club, Founder of the Science Honor Society, and Leader of the Student Body. He also founded two new clubs: Art Academy Literary Magazine and the Newspaper Club.

He participated in the Unified Yonkers Student Leadership Council, Relentless Dreamers Top 100 Club, Research and Development Academy, Avant-Garde, and Beta Club Society.

Ali worked as a media clerk for Icon International, an assistant representative at Yonkers City Hall, and a librarian for the Yonkers Public Library. His hobbies include photography, painting, and sculpting.

Ali has been accepted to New  York University, Pace University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He will attend RPI where he will major in Economics and Finance.
