In a letter to parents, Bronxville Schools Superintendent Roy Montesano said that there would be an increased police presence around schools, and there will be officers conducting walkthroughs of the buildings as a precaution. There will also be a training session next week when classes are not in session.

“This type of event strikes fear in the heart of every parent who sends a child to school each day,” Montesano said. “We are all presently hearing extensive media coverage about this horrific event.”

Montesano said that the district is “continually refining our safety and security procedures, protocols and infrastructure while working closely with first responders from our various communities and safety experts to evaluate and improve our safety plans.”

In the wake of the shooting and recent violent events in the area involving local students, Montesano said that any parent who feel their child is expressing fear or concern about such events should contact school officials.

“Together, the entire school community needs to act in partnership to address and prevent threats. If you see something, say something,” Montesano said. “Experts from across the country are pleading with educators, community members, students and parents to bring anything that appears out of the ordinary to the attention of the authorities.
