The six-member rookie team won two out of five qualification rounds, ranking 13 among the 24 High School teams competing.

“It is a great success to be able to reach such a high ranking for a rookie team,” said Carlo Vidrini, PHS robotics instructor. “I am very proud of all involved.”

Before being allowed to face robots built by other teams, the Iron Devils had to get past mechanical and electronic expectations as well as a judges’ interview by eight professional robotics engineers.

The Iron Devils are Elwin Cabrera, Davin Guardino, Ryan Germinaro, Jake Hayward, Jordy Cadena and Christian Anguisaca.

FTC allows students in grades seven through 12 to design, build and program their own robots, which then compete against other machines using a sports model.
