The addition of a full-day pre-K program was made possible after New York State received an additional $25 million in federal funding to support pre-kindergarten programs.
"Reinstating full-day prekindergarten has been a top priority for the Trustees, we are thrilled it will be a reality for September," Yonkers Board of Education President Nader J. Sayegh said in a statement. "Special thanks must be given to our State Legislators, Mayor (Mike) Spano, (City Council) President (Liam) McLaughlin and the City Council, and the Yonkers PTAs for advancing the needs of Yonkers children."
Superintendent of Schools Michael Yazurlo said Yonkers would receive approximately $33 million over the four year span.
