With former Mahopac High Athletic Director John Augusta currently acting as the school's principal, the high school recently hired Ron Montalto to take on the role of athletic director.

Montalto was most recently athletic director at Monroe-Woodbury High School (since 2012), where USA Today ranked the school's boys varsity programs No. 1 in New York State and No. 4 in the nation - something of which Montalto is particularly proud.

He coached the Hudson Valley's Empire State Games boys basketball team from 1991 to 1996, inning two gold medals and three bronze, and was the first AD from Section 9 selected to the NYSPHSA's Hall of Fame - Class of 2009.

Montalto, who resides in Dobbs Ferry, grew up in Poughkeepsie and attended Poughkeepsie HS, where he was a three-sport athlete, playing football, baseball and basketball, before heading to the University of New Hampshire (where he played four years of basketball).

He also served in Vietnam as a 1st LT Airborne Ranger Infantry Platoon Leader, and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Check out the video to see Daily Voice talk to Montalto about his new position - he is currently listed as 'interim' AD, as Augusta is 'interim' Principal. Montalto said both positions are still open-ended, and so far neither spot is being described as 'permanent.'
