YONKERS, N.Y. -- Eugenio María de Hostos Microsociety School swore in its first-year students and staff during the Yonkers school’s annual Inauguration Day Ceremony on Monday. During the program, the "new citizens" pledge to be upstanding members of the de Hostos MicroSociety by consistently showing respect for each other and the school community.
The MicroSociety learning environment provides a representation of society – a microcosm within which students translate learning into real world application. MicroSociety's mission is to create environments that motivate children to learn by engaging them in the connections between the classroom and real life, according to its website.
De Hostos was recently recognized as a 2013 Model School by Microsociety Inc. at the organization’s 21st Annual National Conference.
The school will be recognized locally for this honor at the Yonkers Board of Education’s regular Monday meeting on Nov. 20 at Saunders Trades and Technical High School, 183 Palmer Road, Yonkers.
The recognition program begins at 7 p.m., prior to the regular meeting. For more information about the school click here .
