The commencement speaker was Viji George, president of Concordia College. The college presented George with an honorary doctorate recognizing his over 37 years of leadership, dedication and service to Concordia George, who is in his 17th year as president of the college, will end his tenure on June 30.
The Rev. Leroy Leach, assistant professor of theology and lay deacon program instructor at Concordia, served as the baccalaureate homilist. Janet George (Class of ’77) received the Volunteer Service and Distinguished Alumna Awards. She has spent much of her life in service to Concordia College and other faith-based organizations.
The Servant of Christ Award was presented to Jean Hanson, a longtime friend, patron and advocate of Concordia. Hanson served for over 10 years on the college’s Board of Regents, first as a member and then as chair, and is an accomplished lawyer. Concordia posthumously appointed John Bahr professor emeritus in recognition of his 39 years of distinguished service to the college, the church and the community.
