Wayne Water Main Break Tangles Evening Rush Hour

WAYNE, N.J. -- A water main break Tuesday afternoon kept Alps Road closed in Wayne from French Hill Road to Nellis Drive and caused major evening rush-hour trouble on other major roadways.

Nellis from Howe Avenue to Alps Road was also closed following the 3 p.m. break. The work was continuing as of 5:20 p.m.

Evening rush-hour motorists reported tie-ups on Valley and Ratzer roads, as well as other arteries.

"It's a complete mess," reported motorist Michele Diane Tiritilli. "To go from Valley Road to Oakland I had to go to [Route] 23."
