Yonkers residents have been coming out in bunches to vote all morning, said election inspector Louise Gioia.

"Everything is going good so far with voters, voting and the machines," Gioia said. "It's already been pretty busy here, and it will only get busier as people start to get out of work. Because everything has been good, we've had time to help voters who need assistance."

Lifelong Yonkers resident Josephine Greco was one of the voters who was assisted through the voting process.

"Voting these days is all very new for me with the machine and such," Greco said. "I'm an old lady, so I'm used to the old way of doing things. In any case, the helpers here have been great and walked me through the whole thing. Things worked out just fine for me"

Many parents and Parent Teacher Association members also volunteered their time to make sure everything went smoothly, said Yonkers resident and mother Lillian Thompson.

"I've been here all day, and I'll be here all night," she said. "We decided to come in to make sure no strangers wander into the school and go places they shouldn't be. There hasn't been any problem and I don't suppose there will be because it's a happy day and people are just doing their own thing."

New York State voters have until 9 p.m. to cast their ballots.
