Spreckman, 80, a Yonkers Republican, said the demands of the job have gotten too much for her. She's represented the county's 14th District for more than 20 years, lohud.com says.

Legislature Chairman Michael Kaplowitz, a Somers Democrat, said he's learned a lot from Spreckman, who is known for her work on issues involving senior citizens, among others. Most recently, she was chair of the board's seniors and constituents committee, lohud.com reports.
