Schorr, a White Plains resident, announced Thursday he is seeking the Republican nomination to represent the 37th District. The seat became vacant when Latimer was elected county executive.

The former Yonkers inspector general will be challenging Sarmad Khojasteh, a Bedford attorney, for the Republican nomination. Schorr said he wants to clean up Albany, deliver meaningful tax relief, and strengthen laws against sexual misconduct.

“My background both in the private sector and as a sex crimes prosecutor and inspector general makes me uniquely qualified to deliver on the real reforms we desperately need in Albany," Schorr said. It’s time to stop electing the same career politicians hoping for a different result.”

As Westchester County District Attorney Schorr worked in the domestic violence and sex crimes bureaus. He is currently a managing director at Kroll and is a legal pundit on TV.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has not called a date for the special election.

The 37th Senate District covers the cities of New Rochelle, Rye, White Plains, Yonkers and the towns of Bedford, Harrison, Mamaroneck, North Castle, Rye, Eastchester.
