State Senator From Yonkers Elected Women In Government Director

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – State Sen. Ruth Hassell-Thompson was sworn in as a 2015 State Director with Women in Government during the 21st Annual State Directors’ Conference in Pete Beach, Fla.

The Women In Government Foundation, Inc. is a national non-profit and non-partisan organization of women state legislators providing leadership opportunities, networking opportunities and educational resources. State Directors for the organization help set policy goals.

“It gives me great pleasure to accept the position of state director for this prestigious organization,” said Sen. Hassell-Thompson. “New York state has a grand tradition of fighting for women’s rights, and I look forward to sharing the knowledge I have gained as a state senator and collaborating with all my other colleagues. Together, we will continue our work to improve and enhance the opportunities for all women throughout our country.”

Dyan Alexander, the executive director of Women in Government, expressed confidence in Hassell-Thompson’s abilities to succeed in her new role.

“Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson is a recognized leader in her state, and we are excited that she will now share her leadership skills with other women policymakers throughout the country,” said Alexander.  

At the conference, women state legislators heard from expert speakers on a variety of public policy topics including energy diversity, the role of nutrition in healthy aging, and creating opportunities for families.
